Leeds United academy stars set to break into first XI next season – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Leeds United will be forced to integrate more young stars in the 2024-25 campaign.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Whites won’t have big funds to spend in the transfer window after missing out on promotion.
Leeds fell to a 1-0 defeat against Southampton in the Championship play-off final on Sunday (26 May), consigning them to another year in the second tier.
Football Insider revealed last week that Leeds must now recoup an astonishing £150million in player sales after failing to win promotion back to the Premier League.
Stars like Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto and Illan Meslier are among the club’s most saleable assets.
Farke will be forced to work with young Leeds squad next season, says Wyness
Daniel Farke has blooded starlets like Archie Gray, Charlie Cresswell and Mateo Joseph since his arrival – and Wyness insisted he will be forced to integrate more youngsters next term.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I can’t see them taking many players in at all, it’ll be about remoulding the squad.
“They’ll look at the youth prospects coming through, and they’ve already got a decent blend of youth and experience.
“The younger players are key to having the legs to come through the long, long season in the Championship.

“It’s Tuesday-Saturday, Wednesday-Saturday – it’s relentless.
“I can’t see Leeds being big buyers in the market, but they will remould with whatever they have in September.”
