Agbonlahor backs Leeds to sign team-of-the-season star Perraud after talks held

Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Leeds United to strike an early window deal for Stade Brest defender Romain Perraud.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward suggested a new left-back will be the Whites’ top transfer priority after Ezgjan Alioski’s mixed performances.

As revealed by Football Insider, Leeds have made Perraud their top left-back target this summer.

The Yorkshire giants are confident of completing a deal after holding “encouraging talks”.

Alioski, who has played the majority of the campaign at left-back, is expected to leave Elland Road next month when his contract expires.

Leeds are in desperate need of a new full-back and Perraud fits the bill after an impressive Ligue 1 campaign.

The 23-year-old provided seven assists and scored three goals in 36 league games.

His impressive performances led to him being named in France Football‘s Ligue 1 team of the season.

Asked whether Leeds will want to complete a deal for the Frenchman early, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“It’s a position where they need to do something.

“Alioski’s done well filling in there but he’s not a left-back. Imagine how well they’d do with a real left-back in there.

“I totally agree and I’m sure they’ll get something sorted.”

Perraud has played 61 games across all competitions for Brest after signing from fellow Ligue 1 side Nice in 2019.

He is under contract at Brest until the summer of 2025 after signing a two-year contract extension at the beginning of the year.
