Leeds United can become Premier League ‘challengers’ after new development – Kieran Maguire
The new financial regulations being introduced in the Premier League will give Leeds United an opportunity to join the “middle class” clubs in the top flight.
That is the view of finance exclusive Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the impact of regulations on teams being promoted to the Premier League.
Premier League clubs voted this month to replace the current Profit and Sustainability Rules with new regulations that caps spending to a percentage of a club’s overall revenue.
Clubs not competing in Uefa competitions can spend up to 85 percent of their revenue on transfer fees, wages and agent fees.
Leeds United earned £177million in revenue in their 2022-23 accounts putting them 27th in world football.
New financial rules suit Leeds United – they can thrive in Premier League
Maguire believes the Yorkshire club can establish themselves as Premier League regulars if they achieve promotion this season.
“The implementation of the squad control cap is going to be very challenging for both clubs and the Premier League itself,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“It does effectively reinforce the existing gaps that operate within football.

“But for a club like Leeds, which has excellent commercial revenue and good matchday revenue, it could actually be an opportunity.
“They can cement the club as part of the middle class of the Premier League and then move towards becoming challengers if the club expands the stadium and moves on from there.“
