Leeds United could now sell Raphinha for ‘£50m’ after transfer update – pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped Leeds United to slap a “£50-60million” asking price on Raphinha’s head amid reported interest from Barcelona.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland defender insisted the 25-year-old’s future would come down to money.

As reported by Spanish publication Sport on Tuesday (29 March), Barca are readying a second offer worth an initial £33.9million (€40million), with a further £8.5million (€10million) in add-ons after having a £29.6million (€35million) bid rebuffed.

The Catalan giants reportedly will not improve on their offer, knowing that Raphinha has a £21.2million (€25million) release clause if Leeds are relegated.

However, Hutton suggested Barcelona’s prospective bid will still fall short of the Whites’ demands.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s difficult to put a price on him. How long’s he got left on his contract, two years?

“What are they going to be looking for? £50-60million, off the top of my head. There’s no doubting his quality and what he’s capable of on his day.

“It’s difficult to turn down a team like Barcelona if they come calling. They may only come calling once in your whole career, so it’ll be difficult. It’s all going to come down to the money.

“I mean, Barcelona have gone through a tough time. They’ve had to sell off all their superstars to balance the books. Have they got £50-60million to spend on a player?

“I think to try and get Raphinha out is going to take something like that. It’s really going to come down to can they afford it.”

Raphinha joined Leeds from Stade Rennais for a reported £17million back in 2020.

He has scored 15 goals and contributed 12 assists in 59 appearances for the Whites.
