Leeds United could sell Crysencio Summerville to fund ‘huge’ Joe Rodon move – pundit

Leeds United could sell Crysencio Summerville to fund a permanent move for Joe Rodon if they don’t get promoted.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed the Whites will “definitely” look to complete a deal for the Tottenham loanee, but will struggle to do so with Championship finances.

As revealed by Football Insider (12 February), Spurs are looking for between £10-15million to sell the Welshman next summer, a fee Daniel Farke’s side can afford if they return to the Premier League.

Leeds have also been handed a boost in their efforts to snap Rodon up, with sources telling Football Insider (14 February) that he would be interested in staying at Elland Road if top-flight status is regained.

Leeds United want to sign Joe Rodon permanently, but will they have to sacrifice top goalscorer Crysencio Summerville to do so?

However, Hutton warned that the club would likely have to sanction a mega-money deal to afford Rodon, meaning a star player like Summerville may have to be sacrificed.

“I think they will definitely look into signing Rodon,” he told Football Insider.

“He has been huge since he joined Leeds and he probably went there with a view to get back into the Premier League.

“I’d imagine they have the money to spend, but it will be interesting to see if they’ll shell that kind of money out on a central defender.

“If they go up, they will definitely buy him, or try to.

“If not, they may have to sell Summerville, or someone like that, to raise the money.

“He’s done really well and he’s certainly worth that kind of money.”
