Leeds United dressing room dealt hammer blow after ‘freak’ Tyler Roberts injury update – expert

Alex McLeish has insisted the Leeds United squad will be devastated by Tyler Roberts’ serious injury blow.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager insisted the 23-year-old’s teammates will miss his experience both on and off the pitch.

Speaking at his press conference on Wednesday (9 March), Jesse Marsch admitted Roberts could be out for as long as four months after suffering a “freak accident” against Leicester City.

The versatile attacker underwent surgery on the issue earlier this week.

McLeish insisted while fans’ opinions waver over Roberts, he would be a big miss to the rest of the Leeds dressing room.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Tyler, they love him some weeks, they don’t others. He’s not quite the character of one or two of the other Leeds players who are really sorely missed.

“But Roberts has been in that system for donkey’s years. He is a very experienced player in that Leeds dressing room. I really do believe that his teammates appreciate him really well.

“Jesse Marsch will want to rely on experience. Roberts has had a lot of experience over the last three or four years.”

Excluding academy graduates, Roberts is the sixth-longest-serving member of the Leeds United squad.

He joined from West Brom in January 2021 and has made 108 appearances for the Whites so far.

Roberts played 26 times across all competitions this term, scoring once, before suffering his season-ending injury.
