Phillips: Costa and Poveda will 'be on the phone to their agents' after Leeds United transfer update

Helder Costa and Ian Poveda will “want answers” about their Leeds United futures amid the club’s continued search for a new wide man.

That is according to ex-Premier League hitman Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Elland Road pair.

This site revealed on 24th June that Leeds have been given encouragement that Club Brugge winger Noa Lang is keen to sign this summer.

The Whites have entered preliminary talks with the 22-year-old Dutchman and the latest from a Leeds source to Football Insider is that they are going well.

Costa started just 13 matches for Leeds in the league last season while all of Poveda‘s 14 top-flight appearances came as a substitute.

Phillips claimed that the pair of wingers will be concerned about their place in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad ahead of 2021-22.

“It’s only natural that you’d be thinking about it,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“I’d want answers from the club and from the manager about what my role is. Do I have a future here or do I need to move on?

“There are all sorts of questions to be asked. If you’re, say, Dan James at Man United, you’re thinking I haven’t really played a lot last season and now Sancho’s coming in, I’m not gonna play at all.

“It’s the same situation. You start thinking that you want to play. These two lads will be seeking answers and getting on the phone to their agents.”
