Leeds United employee backs Cody Drameh transfer after confirmed news
Noel Whelan has backed Cody Drameh to excel on loan if Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch decides another temporary exit is best for his development.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 20-year-old has now outgrown Under-23 football after his taste of first-team action last term.
As quoted by Leeds Live (26 August), Jesse Marsch revealed he is yet to decide on where Drameh will play during the 2022-23 season after he starred in the win against Barnsley in the League Cup on Wednesday.
The American claimed he challenged the full-back to claim a spot in his side following some “tough conversations” earlier this summer.
Drameh started all 22 games in the second tier after joining Cardiff on loan during the January transfer window – notching three assists in the process.
Rasmus Kristensen currently holds down the senior right-back berth, while vice-captain Luke Ayling is also set to return from injury in the position.
Whelan backed Drameh to follow in the footsteps of fellow England youth international Charlie Cresswell.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think if he’s not going to be used by Jesse Marsch, he may well feel a loan is better for his progression and therefore better for Leeds United.
“There’s no point keeping him around if he’s not playing.

“You get to a point where Under-23 football just isn’t enough any more – and we’ve already seen the likes of Charlie Cresswell going out to the Championship.
“If Marsch considering another loan, then it’s in Drameh’s best interests – and the best interests of the club, because he could well come back a better player.”
