Leeds United employee issues ‘brilliant’ verdict after what he’s heard about Patrick Bamford in training
Noel Whelan has insisted it is “brilliant” to hear Sam Greenwood is using Patrick Bamford as a mentor in training at Leeds United.
The former Leeds forward and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed all the strikers at Thorp Arch can learn from one another to improve their individual games.
Speaking on the official Leeds United podcast (14 April), Greenwood revealed he “looks up” to Bamford and is “studying” the 28-year-old “every day” in training.

The 20-year-old claimed the England striker’s movement is “second to none” and the “one of the best” he’s seen.
Whelan insisted that Bamford would also be developing and improving his game working with the likes of Greenwood.
“I’m a big believer that even when you’re 30 and a very experienced pro like Patrick Bamford, I think you learn off each other,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“There will be points of Sam Greenwood’s game that Patrick Bamford can learn off. I always used to study really good young talent coming through, watching them.
“See how they got on the ball, what their body position was and think can I introduce that into my game because I quite like the way you’ve gone and done that?
“There’s a case for everyone learning off one another. These enthusiastic young strikers, midfielders, wingers we have at the club, there’s something beneficial there for everybody.
“There’s no way, at any age, you shouldn’t be learning and watching other young players. I think there’s always something to take and improve your game with. That’s the beauty of football.

“It’s brilliant you’ve got somebody like Patrick there, and that Greenwood’s willing to learn and listen and study. That is a massive part of football these days.
“Studying the movement, those runs that you can add into your game because it’s been successful for Patrick. Why wouldn’t it be successful for Sam as well?”
