Leeds United employee issues emphatic Rodrigo Moreno claim after Jesse Marsch reveal

Noel Whelan has urged Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch to stick with one of Rodrigo Moreno or Patrick Bamford for the next few games.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Whites ambassador said both players are “lacking self-confidence and belief right now.”

Leeds slipped to a 3-2 defeat to Fulham at Elland Road on Sunday (23 October).

Rodrigo was given the nod to start the fixture and scored after 20 minutes.

Bamford replaced Rodrigo shortly after the hour mark.

Speaking to Leeds Live post-match (23 October), Marsch refused to be drawn on whether his side should have signed a number nine in the summer.

The Whites boss said he is “not going to throw anyone under the bus” after the loss.

When asked by Football Insider if Rodrigo or Bamford should be the first choice moving forward, Whelan said: “Both of them are lacking a bit of self-confidence and belief right now.

I think you have to stick with one rather than chopping and changing.

Bamford is a player who needs a goal from anywhere right now. At the minute, we have two strikers.

I think Rodrigo will start again this weekend because he took his goal well. It is not easy when it is in the air like that. It was a great finish and a great start to the game.

When Patrick comes on he got his opportunity in a similar position and it was a good save by the goalkeeper. He has to do better in those positions though.”
