Leeds United employee issues Jack Harrison claim after ‘dream’ BBC reveal
Noel Whelan has insisted Leeds United star Jack Harrison is making himself “very hard to ignore” in the reckoning for an England call-up next month.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old has put in performances “worthy of recognition” ahead of games against Italy and Germany next month.
Speaking to BBC’S Football Focus programme (27 August), Harrison revealed he is targeting a “dream” inclusion in+- Southgate’s squad for this winter’s World Cup.
Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin backed the winger for a call-up, insisting Southgate will be watching closely after his “incredible” start to the season.
Harrison has claimed one goal and three assists in the first four games of the new campaign.
He has made himself indispensable to Jesse Marsch under competition from new arrivals Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra.
Whelan highlighted the winger’s display against Chelsea earlier this month (21 August).
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s putting in performances worthy of recognition, that’s for sure.
“But England are saturated with quality in wide areas. We have that luxury and we’re blessed with talent.
“It’s all about being consistent and putting in performances for 90 minutes.
“Assists and goals are a big part of catching the eye of Gareth Southgate.

“There’s no doubt that the talent is there for Jack Harrison.
“If he keeps putting in performances like the one we saw against Chelsea, then it’ll be very hard for Southgate to ignore him.”
