Leeds United employee issues Luis Sinisterra claim after new development

Noel Whelan has backed Luis Sinisterra to make his first Leeds United start against Barnsley in the League Cup on Wednesday (24 August).

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed 90 minutes of action will do the 23-year-old “the world of good” after a muted start to his Premier League career.

Sinisterra is yet to make his first competitive start for Leeds United but has played 26 minutes from the bench in cameos against Southampton and Chelsea.

He cost the Elland Road club a reported £21million earlier this summer.

The impressive performances of star men Jack Harrison and Brenden Aaronson have prevented the Colombia international from making his full debut for the Whites.

Leeds United sit third in the Premier League table after their 3-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday (21 August).

Whelan backed Marsch to ring the changes against their Yorkshire rivals but warned that fringe players must show the same quality as their first-choice colleagues.

When asked if Sinisterra could start against Barnsley, he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Yeah.

“I think we’re going to see a lot of new faces that haven’t had the game time that the first eleven have.

“It’s really important to keep people fresh and keep people match fit. This is the sort of game that you have the squad depth for.

“This is the only way you get match sharpness. Training keeps you ticking over, but real games – that’s how you get that edge.

“You can see when Sinisterra comes on that he needs that extra bit of game time, so this will do him the world of good.

“The fringe players have got to show that they are sticking to what the manager wants from his players – because everyone in the first eleven is doing just that right now.”
