Leeds United employee salutes ‘brilliant’ Jesse Marsch transformation amid ‘alarming’ claim
Noel Whelan has hailed the “never-say-die” attitude displayed by Leeds United and Jesse Marsch after their fightback against Wolves.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed “alarm bells were ringing” after the American was forced into four substitutions due to injuries.
Marsch, 48, has now recorded back-to-back victories after Leeds United fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 away at Wolves on Friday (18 March).
The former RB Leipzig boss, speaking post-match and quoted by Leeds Live, hailed the “character and heart” of his side – insisting his players will “continue to draw on that mindset”.
Leeds United lost Patrick Bamford, Illan Meslier, Mateusz Klich, and Diego Llorente all through injury during the clash at Molineux – with Raphinha missing out after testing positive for Covid-19.
Whelan hailed the Whites for bouncing back despite a “chain reaction of things going wrong”.
“The longer the game went on I think the more alarm bells were ringing, with all the adversity we faced,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“It was like a chain reaction of things going wrong.
“But it just comes down to character, spirit, and togetherness. We had a real never-say-die attitude out there, it was brilliant to see.
“We’ve shown that sort of spirit over a number of seasons now, and it’s come back just in the nick of time.
“2-0 is never a nice position to be in, and the sending off really transformed the game. We took full advantage.”

Consecutive victories mean Leeds United have now built a seven-point buffer to the bottom three.
Marsch’s side face Southampton at Elland Road after the international break (2 April).
