Leeds United employee shares ‘100%’ Jamie Shackleton verdict as new details emerge

Noel Whelan has backed Leeds United youngster Jamie Shackleton to “shine” in a “make-or-break” season-long loan at Millwall.

The former Whites and Lions striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 22-year-old will always give “100%” on and off the pitch after what he has seen from the youngster.

Leeds United confirmed the departure of Shackleton to Millwall on Tuesday (19 July) – with fellow Thorp Arch graduate Charlie Cresswell also on loan at The Den.

According to London News Online (22 July), the south London side have included an option to buy within the loan agreement with the Whites.

The versatile youngster, who can play in midfield and at right-back, slipped down the pecking order at Elland Road after the arrivals of Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, and Tyler Adams.

He made just 16 appearances for Leeds United last term.

Whelan insisted the former England Under-20 international will bring a “winning mentality” to his temporary side.

“It is a make-or-break season for him,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I think it’s the right move for Jamie. Now is the time in his career where he has to be playing first-team football, and it’s a very good club to join – with Charlie Cresswell over there at Millwall too.

“I think both players will shine over there. It’s a good club, a lot of pressure from the fans – I’ve played there myself.

“Jamie has got a winning mentality – whether it’s in training or out on the pitch, he will give 100%.

That’s what the Millwall fans will ask of him, and that’s what they will be getting.”
