Leeds United employee shares Wilfried Gnonto claim after what he just saw – ‘he’s the one’
Noel Whelan has insisted Wilfried Gnonto has done “more than enough” to keep his place in the Leeds United side despite the returns of Jack Harrison and Crysencio Summerville.
The former Whites striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hailed the youngsters’ “energy and directness”.
Gnonto started his third consecutive Premier League game against Newcastle on Saturday (31 December).
The Italy international has impressed fans and pundits alike since breaking into Jesse Marsch’s side.
Harrison and Summerville have returned to action following injuries earlier this season, while Luis Sinisterra remains sidelined.
Leeds United sit 14th in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “You can see that Gnonto is the one who is taking the bull by the horns at the moment.
“He’s got that energy, that directness which we love to see at Elland Road.
“I think if you’re looking at the attacking players at the moment, I think Gnonto has done more than enough to keep his place in this side going forward.

“Sinisterra and Summerville will probably need more time to get up to speed.
“Gelhardt, as well, has been excellent when coming off the bench.”
