Leeds United employee slams Thomas Tuchel as new quotes emerge

Noel Whelan has insisted Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel should have had a “bit more classin the wake of his side’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Leeds United on Sunday (21 August).

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Stamford Bridge club were “on the end of a real hiding” at Elland Road.

As quoted by the Daily Mail post-match (21 August), Tuchel refused to give Leeds United credit for the win, insisting his side’s demise was “nothing to do with pressing, nothing to do with running less kilometres and nothing to do with the style of Leeds”.

The German also claimed the Whites’ opening two strikes were “presents” from his side.

Brenden Aaronson opened the scoring, before Rodrigo and Jack Harrison completed the comprehensive victory.

As per LUFCDATA (21 August), Leeds United ran 10.5km more than their opponents as they set about their high-pressing style.

Whelan insisted the Whites were far and away the better side on Sunday.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “What are you talking about, Thomas?

“Chelsea were outworked, outrun, outmuscled, outplayed at times – they were on the end of a real hiding.

“He talks about gifts – but the goal came from the desire and pressure of Aaronson. Without that, he doesn’t get that goal.

“The second goal came from a quality ball, and a really well-executed run and header.

If Chelsea score that goal, then everyone would be saying what a top-quality finish it is.

“All in all, you would think that he would have a bit more class and congratulate Leeds – because they were the better side.”
