Leeds United employee suggests Luis Sinisterra replacement after early team news

Noel Whelan has backed Patrick Bamford to replace Luis Sinisterra in the Leeds United line-up to face Crystal Palace on Sunday (9 October) as the winger serves a one-match suspension.

The former Whites striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 29-year-old could now have the “right levels” after a number of injury problems.

Bamford has started just two of Leeds United’s first seven league games of the new season and hasn’t been part of a starting eleven since 13 August.

Youngsters Wilfried Gnonto and Joe Gelhardt are also pushing for inclusion at Selhurst Park and will be in the mind of Jesse Marsch.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference and quoted by Leeds Live (7 October), Marsch revealed Bamford has “trained well” in the week and is “ready to go” ahead of Sunday’s clash.

He insisted there is a “high likelihood” of the England international starting the game.

Whelan claimed Bamford’s introduction could help Rodrigo shine in an attacking midfield role once again.

When asked who could come in for Sinisterra, he told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Going to Crystal Palace, with the strength in their back line – I think I’d go with Patrick Bamford.

“He’s had enough time to find the fitness and the levels he needs to compete in the Premier League again.

“He would pose a problem for Palace because he likes to hold the ball up and run in the channels.

“I think including him in the side would benefit Rodrigo in that supporting role as well.”
