Leeds United face ‘alarming’ £190m issue if they are not promoted – Kieran Maguire

Leeds United owe £190million in unpaid fees to other clubs – and it will become a major ‘concern’ if they are not promoted this season.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the scale of Leeds ‘unpaid fees is “alarming”.

Leeds published their 2022-23 accounts to Companies House on Tuesday (9 April) revealing record revenue of £189million and an overall loss of £33million.

As revealed by Football Insider, Leeds are safe from a PSR breach this season but could be forced to sell star players to avoid a breach next season.

The Yorkshire club are in the race for promotion back to the Premier League but remain third in the Championship after a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (13 April).

Leeds United £190m unpaid fees are a ’cause for concern’

Maguire explained that the £190million of unpaid fees at Elland Road will be a huge issue if they do not return to the Premier League.

The good news for Leeds fans is that the club appears to be some way from the PSR limits for 2022-23,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

The bad news is that was achieved on the basis of selling players and generating a £71million profit which came from losing some of their best talents.

That is not ideal.

A greater concern is the fact that Leeds appeared to do all of their recruitment for 22-23 using the club credit card and they now have an alarming £190million of unpaid fees, which are due to other clubs.

It’s clearly a cause for concern if the club does not go up this season.
