Leeds United fans get angry as ex-star tears into Junior Firpo – ‘I was screaming’
Leeds United fans have backed ex-White Jon Newsome’s brutal assessment of Junior Firpo after the 1-0 win against Bristol City on Friday (2 February).
Former right-back Newsome, who won Division One with Leeds in 1992 and now works on BBC Radio Leeds, insisted he would “like to have a word with” Firpo about his defending.
He claimed post-match on Friday that the former Barcelona ace has a “lack of awareness of danger” which needs to be “ironed out” by manager Daniel Farke and his coaching staff.
Firpo, who is under contract at Elland Road until June 2025, signed for Leeds in 2021 and was part of the side which suffered relegation from the Premier League last term.
The 27-year-old spent the first three months of the season out through injury but returned in November and has started six games in 12 total appearances in the 2023-24 campaign.
He has started each of the last five Championship fixtures for Leeds – all wins – and has notched four assists in that period.
Farke’s side now sit third in the table and are just one point adrift of second-place Southampton.
Despite the recent success with Firpo back in the side, some Leeds fans agree with Newsome and feel they would be better off without him.
In other news, Farke’s side line up defender talks as exit decision made.
