Leeds United fans will be in hysterics at Weston McKennie latest as Premier League return could be on
Leeds United fans will be astonished by the latest update that has emerged over the future of their former midfielder Weston McKennie.
The American completed a loan switch to Elland Road in January 2023, but was unable to make a positive impact on the West Yorkshire outfit, despite arriving from Juventus with a big reputation.
Jesse Marsch brought McKennie to Leeds in the mid-season window in a bid to help his team beat the drop, but he ultimately lost his job just weeks after the signing was confirmed.
The midfielder was a key part of the group that was eventually relegated to the Championship under Sam Allardyce, after Javi Gracia had tried and failed to haul them away from trouble.

Weston McKennie wants Premier League return in January
Leeds are already faring better under Daniel Farke this term than they did in their last top-flight campaign, as they are already over halfway to their 2022-23 points tally, three games shy of the campaign’s mid-point.
That season was largely disastrous for the Whites as they lost their top-tier status, and several of their summer and mid-season signings simply didn’t pay off for them at all.
McKennie was one of the players who undoubtedly fell into that category, as he made 19 league appearances in the second half of the campaign, but rarely looked like a player who was capable of matching the pace of the Premier League.
The Whites had a purchase option as part of their loan deal for the American, but ultimately couldn’t get rid of him quick enough when his initial agreement expired.
| Stats | McKennie Total |
| Appearances | 19 |
| Starts | 16 |
| Goal Involvements | 1 |
| Pass Success | 77.8% |
| Duels Won | 43.6% |
| Tackles | 30 |
As a result, their fans are sure to be in hysterics over the fact that McKennie is targeting a return to the Premier League this winter, according to Tutto Sport.
He has made 25 appearances for Juventus this term, but is out of contract at the end of the season, and his agents are exploring the possibility of a return to England.
The Italian outlet describes McKennie’s spell at Leeds as “disastrous,” but also note that he is still keen to get another chance in English football.
That suggestion is bound to have Leeds fans rolling around with laughter, after they saw first-hand how ill-equipped he was last time he made the switch.
Weston McKennie set an unwanted Leeds record
Leeds are pushing to strengthen their squad in January, and they will be desperately hoping that none of their recruits pan out as badly as McKennie did.
The former Schalke star quickly became a fixture within the starting XI at Elland Road, and he played from the off in 16 of his 19 league appearances, despite turning in some woeful displays.
McKennie ultimately left the club having endured 13 defeats in his 20 competitive appearances, giving him a 65 per cent loss rate.
That left him with what was (at the time) the worst record for any outfield player to have ever played for Leeds at least 20 times, according to Opta expert Jonny Cooper via his X account.
That is potentially the most damning possible reflection as to how badly his time in England went, and Leeds fans will surely now be watching his next move with plenty of anticipation.
