Leeds United have been given a major boost in their pursuit of Che Adams as Southampton set their sights on signing QPR forward Bright Osayi-Samuel, Football Insider has learned.
The Yorkshire giants have not given up hope of prising the 23-year-old from St Mary’s Stadium before the transfer cut-off at the end of next week.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the club are “encouraged” that the Saints are eyeing a deal for Osayi-Samuel this month as it could have a major knock-on effect on their own Adams hopes.
The striker was once again used as a substitute by Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl as his side secured a 3-1 Premier League home win against Crystal Palace.
Leading scorer Danny Ings was rested from the starting XI but Hasenhuttl instead paired Shane Long and Michael Obafemi in attack as he once again overlooked Adams as a starter.
But it is Southampton’s pursuit of Osayi-Samuel that has given Leeds fresh hope a deal can be done for the first-choice centre-forward target this month.
Hasenhuttl has consistently delivered a ‘hands-off’ warning to the player’s suitors but that stance may change if the 22-year-old from QPR arrived at St Mary’s in the next 10 days.
As revealed by Football Insider yesterday, the Saints are keen to add to their attacking options at St Mary’s and Osayi-Samuel fits the profile for the type of player they are interested in as he has great promise and high potential resale value.
Moreover, the in-form forward, who can play anywhere in attack is out of contract at Loftus Road in the summer and this month offers QPR the last chance to secure a fee for him.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are holding talks with a young centre-forward as offer readied.
