Campbell makes ‘huge’ Leeds claim as perfect Poveda replacement identified

Leeds United starlet Crysencio Summerville could be the perfect replacement for Ian Poveda after he departed for Blackburn Rovers.

So says ex-Premier League hitman Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Leeds confirmed Poveda’s loan switch on 23 August.

The winger featured 16 times for Leeds last season, including 14 substitute appearances in the Premier League.

This site revealed on 13 August that the 21-year-old had been axed from the matchday squad for Leeds’ Premier League opener against Man United.

And Football Insider followed up four days later to report that Poveda was set for a late-window exit and Leeds were open to a permanent deal.

Summerville is yet to make his senior Leeds debut but scored seven and assisted seven as Leeds Under-23s won the Premier League 2 last term.

And Campbell thinks that 19-year-old Dutchman can step into Poveda’s role as an impact sub this season.

He told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs: “There is a huge opportunity for someone to step in, Summerville maybe.

“The winger position isn’t one they need to go and invest in. If they are going to invest, I think they’ll invest elsewhere.

“It’s going to be a lot tougher for Leeds this season. It’s their second season in the Premier League and people know what they’re about. But I think they’ll be alright.
