Leeds United ‘keeping a close eye’ on Axel Disasi as West Ham exit now ‘inevitable’

Leeds United have been keeping a close eye on Axel Disasi at West Ham and could make a move if their relegation is confirmed on the final day of the season.

West Ham face a visit to Elland Road knowing only a win will give them a shot at survival, while they are also relying on Tottenham to lose both of their last two games.

It is becoming increasingly likely that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will be the ones to suffer the drop, and vultures are already circling to poach their best players away.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that it is “inevitable” Disasi will leave the London Stadium and likely be snapped up by a rival this summer.

Daniel Farke’s side are not expected to be alone in their pursuit of the centre-back, but are keeping tabs on him ahead of what will be a big transfer window for Leeds.

What is next for Axel Disasi after West Ham loan spell?

Football Insider revealed on 9 May that Leeds are plotting a move for Disasi after originally lining up a move in January before they missed out to West Ham.

He will return to Chelsea following his loan spell in East London, but has no future at Stamford Bridge, and is attracting interest as a result of his strong performances.

A permanent move away from Chelsea is now expected to take place, and while any deal is unlikely to be cheap, the Blues are set to be open to offers.

“Disasi had a bad reputation when he was at Chelsea,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Nobody was really prepared to take a gamble on him because of what happened there, until West Ham came along and gave him the chance to impress.

“You have to give him credit, he’s gone in there, worked hard, and he’s done everything he can to help turn around their fortunes.

“So he’s done himself a favour as well as West Ham and I’m told they’ve been very impressed with him, he’s picked up the squad and he’s a good influence.

“Unfortunately for them, I think it’s inevitable that he will move on if they are relegated, and there will be lots of clubs in the Premier League keen to take him on.

“Leeds are among those, I believe, because they want to strengthen at the back and he has shown at West Ham that he can make that happen.

“Leeds have been keeping a close eye on him since he moved to West Ham and I’m sure they will have been impressed by what they’ve seen from him.

“So it would make a lot of sense for that move to happen for him and for Leeds, because I don’t think he’s got any future at Chelsea now.”

Will the Leeds United board back Daniel Farke’s plans?

Disasi has emerged as a leading target for Leeds ahead of the summer transfer window, with the addition of a new centre-back high on their list of targets.

However, that is unlikely to be the only position Leeds strengthen in, with Farke planning to bolster his squad as part of his ambitious plans for next season.

Brown told Football Insider on 18 May that Farke has challenged Leeds’ board to back him as he aims for a busy transfer window at Elland Road.

Having secured survival in the Premier League at an early stage and now pushed up to 14th place, he believes the right backing can help continue their progress.

Farke has now publicly called on the board not to rest on their laurels and instead to supply him with the backing required to take them to the next level.
