Leeds United legend reacts to Nico Raskin announcement at Rangers

Nico Raskin’s newest announcement at Rangers has gained the interest of a much-loved figure at Elland Road.

Football Insider understands that Leeds United are well-placed to sign Raskin, and with 49ers Enterprises’ proposed takeover at Ibrox the transfer rumours are swirling ahead of the summer transfer window.

The midfield star has attracted plenty of attention despite the Light Blues’ struggles this season, with his performances even enough to earn an international debut with Belgium.

He has made 44 appearances across all competitions, notching three goals and eight assists from the base of midfield, with a new part of his game being unlocked by Barry Ferguson.

The 24-year-old’s performances have clearly not gone under the radar, becoming the subject of the Gers’ newest announcement.

Nico Raskin wins deserved award at Rangers

Taking to Instagram (27 April), the official club’s account announced Raskin as Rangers’ Men’s Player of the Year, alongside Hamza Igamane, who was crowned Men’s Young Player of the Year.

Mohamed Diomande, Cyriel Dessers and Ally McCoist all liked the post, but it is the like from Leeds United legend, Stuart Dallas, that could get chins wagging due to the takeover links.

Barry Ferguson to prepare for tough summer as permanent Rangers manager

Football Insider verdict

Ferguson will be vying for the permanent Rangers manager position once the season ends, and considering the excitement he caused at Ibrox, it is not completely off the table.

There was some hope that the Gers would reach the Europa League final, only to be knocked out by a very strong Athletic Bilbao side in the quarter-finals, but fans did not feel let down at all.

If the takeover is to be completed as expected, there could be multiple changes to the squad ahead of the summer transfer window, and so too in the dugout, with new owners in charge.

Jose Mourinho has been tipped for a Rangers move from Fenerbahce, with Steven Gerrard, Derek McInnes, Marco Rose and Rafa Benitez all supposedly in the conversation.

Losing the likes of Raskin and Igamane could be huge blows, but with an expected influx of cash coming to Ibrox, the potential to challenge Celtic in the Scottish Premiership will spike.
