Exclusive: Leeds loanee facing uncertain future amid shock development
Leeds United loanee Eunan O’Kane is facing an uncertain future at Luton Town as the club close in on the sensational reappointment of Nathan Jones.
Football Insider broke the news yesterday that Jones is in advanced talks to take charge of the Championship relegation strugglers for a second time.
It is unclear what this means for O’Kane, 29, who was signed by the incoming manager’s predecessor Graeme Jones in January on an 18-month loan.
The Republic of Ireland international, 29, has relocated to the south-east with his family as he looks to reignite his career on loan at the Championship strugglers.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider there is no expectation of O’Kane returning to Elland Road during the remainder of his contract.
The deal is a loan arrangement but an untypical one in that it runs for 18 months, a period that coincides with the expiry of the midfielder’s United contract in the summer of 2021.
However, O’Kane had a first spell at Luton in 2018 when Jones, 46, was in his first hugely successful spell as manager.
That ended in October of that year when he landed the Stoke City post, by which time O’Kane had suffered a horrific double leg fracture that wiped out more than a year of his career.
O’Kane still hasn’t played competitively since he suffered that injury, which is now 20 months ago.
Luton are 23rd in the Championship with nine matches remaining and six points from safety.
