Medical insider reveals how Leeds United staff may be to blame for Luis Sinisterra injury

Leeds United staff will feel that they could have done more to reduce the risk of a muscular injury for new signing Luis Sinisterra.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Sinisterra, 23, signed from Feyenoord earlier this month (8 July).

But the Colombian international limped off in the friendly against Crystal Palace last Friday (22 July) and was later revealed to have suffered a hamstring injury.

Speaking to Leeds Live about the winger’s setback later that day, Whites boss Jesse Marsch revealed he was “totally dissatisfied because that’s reflective of everything we do with them physically.”

Dinnery explained why Marsch may believe Sinisterra’s injury was avoidable.

“When looking at the data, the avoidable injuries are the non-contact ones,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“The hamstrings, muscular injuries and the like can lead a club to question whether they have done something wrong with their handling of the player’s load. That is what Jesse Marsch is insinuating there.

“It’s always a disappointment when you have these injuries because they are the ones you like to think you can avoid, although sometimes that’s not possible.

“But hamstring injuries account for around 40 per cent of all muscular problems. They aren’t going anyway, regardless of the advancements in technology.

“But he is joining a new team and was always going to push himself hard to impress. Hopefully, it is towards the lower end of the spectrum.”
