Leeds United may have already smashed wage structure as £26m news confirmed – Mills

Danny Mills has suggested Leeds United have smashed their previous wage structure this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England full-back delivered his verdict after the club revealed their accounts for the 2020-21 season.

They were made public on companies house earlier this month (6 April) and Leeds made an operating profit of £5million.

The pre-tax profit was £26m, meaning the season was a success both on and off the pitch.

“It’s not a huge profit although most clubs are running at a loss,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“What hasn’t quite kicked in is a new wage structure and maybe payments for players because when you do a transfer it’s very, very rare that you pay the whole fee in one hit. That’s often spread across.

“New contracts have obviously been signed too, and the accounts are a year behind. It’s only the first year in the Premier League and there will have been a lot of new contracts signed since then. Players wages will have gone up.

“They are in a healthy position, they’ve been well looked after under Radrizzani and it’s a position to try and build on.

“It goes to show even when you’re very frugal and successful it’s very difficult to make huge amounts of money in the Premier League.

“They spent nearly £100million in the transfer market. Jack Harrison was brought in, Rodrigo, Raphinha, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch were brought in. That all adds up.”

In other news, Leeds United have set their sights on signing a defender loved by Victor Orta and £27million could seal the deal.
