Leeds United news: ‘Huge’ Raphinha claim issued after transfer confession – pundit

Alan Hutton has admitted quitting Leeds United would be a “risk” for Raphinha ahead of the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland international admitted the start of the 2022/23 campaign will be “huge” for the 25-year-old’s hopes of making the Brazil squad.

Speaking to Brazilian outlet Globo (4 June), Raphniha confessed the prospect of being selected for the World Cup will play a big factor in deciding what he will do during the summer transfer window.

The winger admitted he needs to be playing regularly to stay in contention for selection, whether with Leeds or elsewhere.

Hutton admitted the Brazilian faces a dilemma if international ambitions are his priority.

“You’re never guaranteed with a switch or a move, anything can happen,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“But if you’re getting bought for £60million, chances are you’re coming in to make the squad better. You’re going to play. You don’t buy someone for £60million and say: ‘Okay, you’re going to play once a month’.

“That doesn’t normally happen but obviously there are risks and everything. He wants to be in the Brazil squad, he has to play at a high level. Does he see himself fighting relegation again? Is that helping his cause?

“Does he see Leeds pushing forward and trying to get top ten? Can he help them achieve that? These are questions he needs to ask.

“Of course, he needs to be playing week in, week out at a good level to even make the Brazil squad, never mind actually playing in the World Cup with them.

“It’s a huge season for him, whether it be with Leeds or somewhere else.”
