Leeds United news: Jesse Marsch claim made after ‘unbelievable’ behind-the-scenes reveal – ex-manager

Alex McLeish has heralded Jesse Marsch for keeping the Leeds United squad “motivated” and “onside” during their successful survival battle this season.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the American boss has shown “magnificent motivational powers” during his time at Elland Road.

Spekaing to talkSPORT on Monday (23 May), Leeds striker Sam Greenwood branded Marsch an “unbelievable coach” and insisted his positivity “is the best I’ve ever seen”.

The young hitman revealed “everyone gets on” with the 48-year-old behind closed doors.

McLeish admitted the Leeds squad could have been “feeling sorry for themselves” as they battled against relegation.

He hailed the American manager for retaining an air of positivity off the pitch.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “That is magnificent motivational powers from Jesse Marsch, that he’s kept the players onside.

“They could all be feeling sorry for themselves but instead he’s motivated them mentally. In turn, that does the physical side for you in your body and obviously quality as well.

“All these things are enhanced when you get the support of the gaffer. Well done Jesse Marsch.

“We speak about managers for manager of the season. Eddie Howe came in late and was a contender. Jesse Marsch came in late when Leeds were in turmoil and could have been a contender as well.”

Leeds leapfrogged Burnley on the final day of the season to secure survival.
