Leeds United news: Marcelo Bielsa told to ‘walk away’ amid fears he will be ‘hounded out – ex-Whites star

Marcelo Bielsa should leave Leeds United at the end of the season to maintain his “icon” status.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Argentine’s future.

Bielsa is under pressure with Leeds firmly in a relegation battle after a poor run of form.

On 17 February The Telegraph reported Jesse Marsch is Leeds’ first choice to replace the Leeds boss if he leaves this summer.

Bielsa’s contract will expire at the end of the season and Marsch is out of work after being sacked by RB Leipzig in December.

Kenny doesn’t want to see Bielsa “hounded out of Leeds”.

“Look, the guy is an icon and he’s done great things for Leeds,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Is he the right person to progress the club even higher? I’m not sure.

“He’s a great manager but he can be stuck in his ways and that has harmed Leeds this season.

“He should walk away and keep his reputation. I think no matter what happens he will always be this iconic Leeds United manager.

“But you don’t want it to end badly, that’s what I’m trying to say. You don’t want to see him hounded out.

“I think he will just let his contract run out and he won’t sign a new one, simple.”

Bielsa has been at Leeds since June 2018.

Leeds are next in action against Leicester next Saturday (5 March).
