Leeds United news: Mills fears drastic action against Whites after statement issued

Danny Mills has warned Leeds United fans about the prospect of “empty stadiums” in the wake of fan trouble during the loss against Man United.

The former Whites defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a few “idiots” are “spoiling it for everyone else” with their “unacceptable” actions.

Man United hitman Anthony Elanga was struck on the head by a coin as the away side celebrated scoring the third goal in their 4-2 victory at Elland Road on Sunday (20 February).

Leeds United released a statement on Tuesday (22 February) confirming they have identified a “small number of supporters who threw objects onto the pitch” during the game.

The Yorkshire club pledged to hand fans lifetime bans if found guilty by a police investigation.

Mills backed the Whites’ actions and rubbished talk of allowing alcohol back onto the terraces – which was suggested after a fan-led government review last September.

“These are idiots and they’re spoiling it,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“It’s only a few, but they’re spoiling it for everyone else. We know what it’s like not to be at football, we know what it’s like to be at empty stadiums.

“There was talk of allowing alcohol out onto the terraces. Come on. Never in a million years is that going to happen.

“Throwing plastic bottles and coins at players – who do these people think they are? At what point do you think that’s acceptable?

“There’s enough CCTV in the ground to pick out individuals and ban them for life. That’d be a massive deterrent.

If they can’t do that, then close that block – people will know who threw that object, it’s self-policing.”
