Leeds United news: Patrick Bamford is ‘done for the season’ – pundit

Patrick Bamford has a “real problem” and won’t play for Leeds United again this season.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid the latest on the 28-year-old’s fitness.

Leeds United announced on 27 March that Bamford has ruptured his plantar fascia after struggling with the foot injury throughout this season.

He was said to be set for six weeks on the sidelines, but, as quoted by BBC Sport West Yorkshire (April 9), the striker admitted he will “push to come back” if Leeds find themselves in relegation trouble.

However, McAvennie insists Bamford shouldn’t play again this season.

“I think Leeds have a real problem with Bamford,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s barely played this season. I think there is a problem there. He has got the summer to get over this.

“He needs that. Leeds need to draw a line under him and say ‘you’re done for the season’.

“If they rush him back and he plays the last few games of the season, that won’t help him.

“With an injury like this, you need a long uninterrupted recovery period. He shouldn’t rush back, that’s wrong.

“So he’s out for the season, for me. I think Leeds are safe so that’s not too bad news but he definitely think he has a real problem that the club need to fix.”
