Leeds United news: Patrick Bamford’s season may be over after ‘bad sign’ spotted – expert

Patrick Bamford may not play again for Leeds United this season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker admitted he had sympathy for Bamford after he limped off after just 23 minutes of their 3-2 win over Wolves on Friday night (18 March).

The 28-year-old was making just his second start for the Whites since September last year (2021) after struggling with various injuries.

As quoted by Leeds Live after the game, Jesse Marsch claimed the striker’s injury was not as bad as first feared after his reaction when leaving the pitch.

But Agbonlahor has claimed Bamford should write off this season and focus on returning fully fit for pre-season.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I did feel sorry for Bamford.

“Sometimes when you get these continuous injuries, it’s a bad sign.

“Does Bamford just need to be rested and brought back in pre-season to go again for next season? There are about two months left of the season, is there any need to rush him back?

“He didn’t look like himself from the first minute of the game, never mind from when he got injured.

“He needs to be rested and get him back to the right fitness and not rush him.”

Bamford has three goal contributions in 10 games across all competitions and his absence has been keenly felt.

The one-time England international scored 17 times in 38 Premier League games last season and was rewarded a new five-year deal last summer (2021).
