Leeds United news: Pundit ‘100 per cent’ sure on Elland Road controversy after statement

Kevin Campbell has backed Leeds United’s decision to hand out lifetime bans to fans found guilty of throwing objects onto the pitch against Manchester United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said such a course of action is the only way to deal with supporters acting in such a fashion.

An object thrown by a Whites fan hit Man United’s Anthony Elanga at Elland Road on Sunday.

In a statement on Tuesday (22 February), Leeds United confirmed a small number of supporters who threw objects “have been identified”.

The club revealed those identified will be banned from attending games while a police investigation is carried out, and if found guilty, will be given lifetime bans.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the right approach had been taken by the club, Campbell said: “100 per cent, that has to be the approach they take.

“When you throw coin from a distance it can chip you. It can really cut you. You can shout abuse and say whatever you want from the stands but the moment you throw stuff, that’s crossing the line.

“There is only one option – ban them. Definitely ban them, that’s the only course of action.”
