Leeds United news: Pundit cites Ralf Rangnick after ‘worrying’ new development
Leeds United fans are right to be “worried” about the appointment of Jesse Marsch and his first match against Leicester City on Saturday is “huge” and will set the tone, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 48-year-old could struggle as a result of his lack of Premier League experience.
Leeds United confirmed the appointment of former RB Leipzig coach Marsch on Monday (28 February) after the departure of long-serving manager Marcelo Bielsa a day earlier.
The American is a graduate of the Red Bull network, which has spawned the high-pressing philosophies of Premier League managers Ralph Hasenhuttl and Ralf Rangnick.
Hutton suggested Rangnick’s “struggles” at Man United could be cause for concern for Whites fans.
“I can see why the Leeds United fans are worried,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Obviously he’s earned his stripes as a manager in that Red Bull organisation, working under Ralf Rangnick.
“He’s come into the Premier League and struggled at times with his philosophy – that high press we’ve seen at Man United.
“Like Rangnick, Marsch is a guy who has got no experience in England, let alone a relegation battle. It can be so difficult for even the most experienced of campaigners.
“I can understand why the fans are nervous about bringing him in. But you have to be open to new ideas and if he can come in and hit the ground running from his first game, which is huge, then they could start to look up the table.”
Rangnick and Marsch worked together at RB Leipzig during the 2018/19 season.

The American takes charge of his first Leeds United match against Leicester on Saturday.
The Whites are just two points above the drop zone.
