Leeds United news: Pundit digs at Marcelo Bielsa after Hay’s Thorp Arch reveal
Jesse Marsch could improve Leeds United’s injury record by overhauling their training methods, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the amount of injuries under previous manager Marcelo Bielsa was “not a good look.”
On Monday (28 February), Leeds United announced Jesse Marsch has replaced Marcelo Bielsa as manager.
According to The Athletic‘s Phil Hay (2 March), the “training load structure” will look different under Marsch to Bielsa.
Hay added that the new management team are likely to try to keep players out of the “red zone”, where they are most likely to suffer muscle injuries.
The Whites have struggled this season in the absence of key players such as Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper.
Campbell suggested Bielsa’s intense training methods were the cause of such players’ injuries.
“I think it could be a good thing,” he told Football Insider.
“I don’t want to totally disqualify Bielsa’s methods because it got Leeds back to the promised land. They had a great season last year.
“But the body can only take so much and that might be why they started having so many injuries. You have to start to manage players and their fitness.

“Bielsa was one way. Certain players were coming back and breaking down. That is not a good look.
“I’m sure it’s something the club will look at changing under Jesse Marsch.”
