Leeds United news: Pundit issues bold Dan James prediction after ‘waste of money’ claim
Paddy Kenny has suggested Dan James could explode upfront with a run in the Leeds United side.
The former Whites shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old has silenced critics claiming he was a “waste of money”.
James grabbed a brace while leading the line as Leeds United came back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 away at Aston Villa on Wednesday (9 February).
Speaking to BT Sport post-match, the Wales international claimed he was “enjoying” his new role and insisted he is “learning every day” under manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Kenny praised the former Man United winger for taking up the mantle in Patrick Bamford’s injury absence.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s doing really well, isn’t he?
“The two goals were well taken and it’ll be interesting to see how he can do with a run in that side.
“I’ve heard a lot of people saying that he was a waste of money, but I’ve got to disagree – I think he’s performing well.
“He’s grabbed two really important goals against a good Aston Villa side, and that’s what Leeds need. With Bamford out, there’s a real need for someone to take over that goal scorer role.
“He’s stepped up and provided that, it’s brilliant.”
Fellow Wales international Tyler Roberts has also filled in upfront for Leeds United, while Rodrigo and Joe Gelhardt are more conventional options.

James, who joined Leeds United for a reported £25million in August 2021, has scored four league goals this term.
The Whites sit 15th in the Premier League.
In other news, pundit predicts this could be £18million stumbling block in Kalvin Phillips’ contract renewal.
