Leeds United news: Pundit issues Jurgen Klopp ‘injury’ claim
Marcelo Bielsa was trying to copy Jurgen Klopp’s early days at Liverpool amid claims over his Leeds United training methods.
That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about fresh comments from Jesse Marsch.
Speaking to talkSPORT on Tuesday (12 April), Marsch suggested Bielsa was over-training his players while he was Whites boss.
The Leeds boss insisted his players were left in a “physically, mentally, psychologically, emotionally difficult place”.
The Whites have been plagued by injury issues this season but McLeish has hunted he has no problem with how Leeds were training under Bielsa.
“Go back to Klopp’s early days at Liverpool, he had everyone working on the gegenpress,” McLeish told Football Insider deputy editor Russell Edge.
“Liverpool were getting lots of injuries at that time because of the intensity of the training, what has happened at Leeds is similar to that.
“After time at Liverpool, you would see players stop getting injured. They got used to it and became stronger.
“It takes a while to get there, and you have to remember Klopp had to bring his own players in.
“We were so fit back when we played. We could do 90 minutes and then some.
“But it took us a while to get those levels of fitness, that’s just what happens.”

Marsch took over from Bielsa on 28 February following Leeds’ drop to 16th in the Premier League table.
His side now sits nine points clear of the relegation zone.
