Leeds United news: Pundit lambasts ’embarrassing’ Marcelo Bielsa as new details emerge in last 24 hours
Marcelo Bielsa’s “very stubborn tactics” were “embarrassing” to Leeds United and cost him his job, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Andrea Radrizzani wanted to sack Bielsa “months ago”.
He eventually lost his job on Sunday (27 February) after a run of five defeats in six with 21 goals conceded in the process.
They had dropped to 16th in the Premier League table, just two points clear of the relegation zone.
90 min reported today (1 February) that senior players tried to organise a meeting with Bielsa in an attempt to tweak the tactics to no avail.
“1000 per cent the right decision,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Bielsa could have played against a World All-Stars XI and gone man-for-man. His very stubborn tactics cost him his job.
“Just because you brought the club into the Premier League and had a great first season it doesn’t mean you can do what you like and embarrass the club on the pitch.
“If I’m the owners I would have sacked him months ago because it’s not good enough.
“With the players they had available you had to play a certain way so you could pick up points and stay in the league.
“Play your expansive, attacking football when you’ve got the right cover in defence.
“In time it will prove to be the right decision. When Leeds start getting 1-0 wins, stop conceding so many goals you will see fans will get used to it and stop moaning about the decision.”

Jesse Marsch was appointed as Bielsa’s successor yesterday (28 February) on a three-and-a-half-year contract.
The American had been out of work since leaving RB Leipzig in December 2021.
In other news, Leeds United have been handed a ‘big’ transfer boost by a 16 goal/assist sensation.
