Leeds United news: West Ham secretly thrilled after Kalvin Phillips reveal in last 24 hours – Mills
West Ham were secretly glad Leeds United did not accept their £55million offer for Kalvin Phillips, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender suggested West Ham did not want to spend any money in January as their squad is in a good position if they can avoid injuries.
The Sun reported today (6 February) the Hammers were prepared to pay £55million for Phillips on deadline day.

David Moyes failed to add to his squad in the winter window as they remain within touching distance of the top-four.
“Their recruitment over the past couple of years has been very, very good,” Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“David Moyes is a great manager and is very, very shrewd in the transfer market.
“I’m going to guess they were tentative bids. If you want to get Kalvin Phillips at this time of year, it’s going to cost you £75million. You’ve got to stick that cash on the table to even open talks.
“To put around bids around £50million is a bit of ‘Yes, we’re interested but we’re actually happy we didn’t get the player in and had to spend that money’.
“David Moyes has come out and said he’s happy and there’s no reason to dispute that.
“If everyone stays fit, if Antonio stays fit, if Bowen stays fit, if they get one or two of their defenders back they’ve got a very good squad.
“They’ve got to fourth or fifth in the table with the squad that they’ve got. If that squad stays fit, there’s no reason why they can’t crack on.

“They should be happy. If you can’t bring in better quality and the player that you want, sometimes it’s better just to leave it where it is.
“Because of where they are in the table, they don’t feel they need anybody if they can all stay fit.”
In other news, Kieran Maguire has revealed West Ham are well placed to break records in the summer after a £135million+ reveal.
