Leeds United pundit: ‘I know there is bad news on Patrick Bamford’ as ‘travesty’ verdict issued

Leeds United are not out of relegation trouble as key players remain sidelined and results go against them.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Whites’ chances of being relegated.

Leeds lost 4-2 to Manchester United on Sunday (20 February) leaving the club five points off the relegation zone.

To make matters worse for Leeds, Burnley and Watford won a day earlier with Newcastle also drawing at West Ham, closing the gap between them and the bottom three.

Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford also remain sidelined with tough games on the horizon.

McAvennie insists the Whites are not out of trouble yet.

“I’m not seeing Leeds included in the relegation conversation,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They are in a bit of trouble though and you think, they are missing their best players.

“I’m gutted for them, I know there is bad news on Bamford, which is a travesty, but hopefully Phillips isn’t too far away.

“Newcastle are improving, even Norwich are playing a bit better and I still think Everton will pull away.

“All it takes is Leeds to lose a couple of games in a row and they are in real trouble.

“I hope they get out of it, it would be a travesty if they got relegated.. I’ve said before how much I love Elland Road.”

Leeds are next in action against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday (23 February).

They then face Tottenham at Elland Road at the weekend.
