Leeds United ready to name Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper in starting XI after latest update – Mills

Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper will be ready to return to the Leeds United starting XI, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender insisted it is now about Leeds avoiding defeat to their relegation rivals.

Phillips and Cooper both returned to the matchday squad for the dramatic 3-2 win over Wolves last Friday (18 March).

Leeds United

Jesse Marsch admitted to Sky Sports after the game that Phillips, 26, was never going to come on at Molineux.

It was the first time he and Cooper had been involved since the 2-2 draw with Brentford at the beginning of December last year (2021).

“As long as there’s no reoccurrence or anything like that I expect them to both be back in full contention for the next game.

“It’s about not getting beat now, especially against those games with your rivals in and around you.

“Getting beat against the likes of Man City Chelsea and Arsenal is not an issue. Even losing to Southampton is not that much of an issue.

“You’d rather lose to Southampton and beat Brentford than the other way round. A win at Brentford means you’re taking three points off your direct rival.

“It’s about not getting beat to those sides around you, not allowing them to get three points as much as anything else.”

Leeds United

Leeds host Southampton at Elland Road after the international break (2 April).

They still have games with relegation rivals Watford and Brentford as well as home games with high-flying Man City and Chelsea.

In other news, Leeds United have set their sights on signing an 18 goal/assist ace and £20million will seal the deal.
