Kieran Maguire salutes Leeds United as ‘crisis’ dodged – ‘now they’ve got first dibs’

Leeds United avoided the “crisis” in the transport industry by booking private jets on deadline day.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Whites’ activity in the closing throes of the summer window.

Wilfried Gnonto was ultimately Leeds’ only addition on deadline day, with the forward signing from FC Zurich in a £3million deal.

Deals for PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo and Bamba Dieng fell through at the eleventh hour, meanwhile.

As relayed by The Athletic last Friday (2 September), Leeds chartered at least six private jets throughout the course of the evening.

It can cost close to £3,500 per hour to rent one of these planes, according to Afar Magazine.

Maguire claimed that Leeds got the logistics right even if the transfers themselves failed to materialise.

I think what Leeds have done in terms of booking the private jets is an example of forward planning.,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“There is a crisis at present in the transport industry. It’s covered very well in the Price of Football podcast. Therefore, trying to get inventory in terms of access to aircraft is absolutely essential.

“On the face of those things, the costs might seem fines. But the cost in the wider scheme of things is a non-issue.
