Kieran Maguire salutes Leeds United after £171m reveal – ‘they’re the biggest fish’
Leeds United were always the “biggest fish” in the Football League – and they have reached an “impressive” new financial level in the top flight.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the West Yorkshire side’s revenue for the 2020-21 season.
The Whites showcased a turnover of £171million when they filed their annual results with Companies House last Wednesday (6 April).
Per analysis from Maguire’s fellow finance wiz Swiss Ramble, Leeds were world football’s 23rd-biggest revenue generators in 2020-21.
The figures, which Swiss Ramble release via Twitter on Monday (11 April), show Leeds earned more than the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Roma.
Maguire hailed Leeds for capitalising on promotion to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.
“It is impressive, absolutely,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“It was their first season in the Premier League and I think they benefited from the fact that they were the biggest fish in the EFL pond for so long.
“Despite their long residency there, the level of interest in the club never really waned a great deal.
“Now, they have managed to monetise that interest now that they have the added attraction of having Premier League status, which counts for a lot.”

Leed are currently 16th in the league table, seven points clear of the bottom three with six games left to play.
Jesse Marsch’s side take on Crystal Palace in their next match on 25 April.
