Leeds United season ‘ruined’ after ‘awful’ Thorp Arch update – pundit
Frank McAvennie is “gutted” for Patrick Bamford after Leeds United shared an update on his fitness.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the Whites’ fortunes would be different if the striker had been fit this season.
On Sunday (27 March), Leeds, in an update from Thorp Arch, revealed Bamford is set for around six weeks on the sidelines
The 28-year-old striker was visibly upset as he limped off injured against Wolves (18 March) after 23 minutes, having recently returned to action.
He is now set for another spell on the sidelines having only made 10 senior appearances this term.
McAvennie was hoping this new injury wouldn’t be “too bad” after suffering similar blows himself.
“I’m gutted for the boy [Bamford], I have been all season, he’s not been there,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I was hoping this injury isn’t too bad. As a striker, I know what it’s like to have those injuries and it’s awful.
“A few weeks ago, I said he might need a full pre-season to get back fit.
“Maybe that is what was needed. Leeds have just had an awful time with injuries.
“Phillips has barely been there as well and he’s been a big miss. It’s ruined their season.
“It’s meant they can’t play the football they want to. I just hope they are all back as soon as possible.”

Bamford has three goal contributions in his 10 games across all competitions.
He dazzled last season, bagging 17 goals in the Premier League.
