Medical expert: Patrick Bamford could have ‘Plantar Fasciitis’ after Leeds update today

Patrick Bamford has made “no progress at all” in his recovery from injury at Leeds United.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Bamford, who has struggled with a litany of injuries in 2021-22, has not featured since the 2-2 draw with Brentford at the start of December.

The 28-year-old centre-forward was originally ruled out with a hamstring injury but is now struggling with an unspecified foot issue.

He is currently undergoing pain-killing treatment to get him in a position to return to first-team action.

Per the Yorkshire Evening Post today (10 February), Marcelo Bielsa claimed it is “impossible to imagine” when the treatment would be effective.

Dinnery analysed Bamford’s predicament and the possible causes of his ongoing foot concerns.

“It’s difficult to ascertain exactly what’s going on,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“All we know is that there is pain or discomfort on the bottom of the foot. We don’t know what’s causing that.

“Bielsa urged caution when asked about this before the break. What he’s now said indicates that he has made no progress at all during that period.

“That might be an indication that it could be an overuse issue, maybe plantar fasciitis. That would respond well to rest.

“But given the uncertainty around this problem, it’s not easy to nail down a return timeline.

“If a player suffers a reaction, it will keep him out for a longer period.”

Bamford has netted three times in six appearances this term.

He was absent as Leeds drew 3-3 away to Aston Villa last night (9 February).
