Kieran Maguire: ‘Life going to get a lot harder’ at Leeds after Radrizzani speaks out

The emergence of Newcastle United as a force in the Premier League will “make life a lot harder” for Andrea Radrizzani and Leeds United.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about recent remarks made by the Whites owner.

He was one of 18 chiefs who voted at an emergency meeting to block Premier League clubs from signing partnerships with related parties.

The conference of clubs was called amid concerns that post-takeover Newcastle could strike exorbitant deals with Saudi PIF-linked companies.

Newly-minted Newcastle were the only club to vote against the temporary new sponsorship restrictions, while Man City abstained.

As quoted by BBC Sport on 14 October, Radrizzani warned that clubs are “not playing the same game” unless sponsorship rules are enforced.

Radrizzani has spoken openly about his dream to propel Leeds into the European places in the coming years.

But Maguire suggests that his task has just been made significantly more challenging following Newcastle’s mega-money takeover.

“I can understand this from Radrizzani’s perspective,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Given that he is not in a position to put money into the club directly or indirectly, he would be opposed to anyone that is in that position.

“All clubs are operating from a position of self-interest and there is nothing wrong with that. Radrizzani’s goal for Leeds is to get them into the top six.

“Newcastle coming into that challenging pack is going to make life a lot harder for Leeds.
