Attacker must be axed: Three things learned about Leeds from defeat to Sheffield Wednesday
COMMENT By Russell Edge
Leeds United took another blow to their Championship promotion charge after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.
A first half double from former Celtic striker Gary Hooper was enough to secure the win for the Owls and add to Leeds’ midweek defeat to Cardiff City, who are now top of the table.
The result means that Thomas Christiansen’s side, who were leading the Championship a week ago, have slipped down to fifth place, four points behind Cardiff and just a point from Aston Villa who sit outside the play off places.
The disappointment was further compounded by an injury to key defender Pontus Jansson, who saw himself stretchered off the field after a collision with Kalvin Phillips, who himself was nursing a thigh injury for the final 20 minutes of the tie.
So what can fans take away from the defeat at Hillsborough?
Here, Football Insider has analysed three things learned from Sunday’s clash, including one man who needs to be axed from the starting XI.
