Leeds United to demand £100m for Kalvin Phillips after manager update – pundit

Leeds United can demand £100million for Kalvin Phillips despite his recent injury woes.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s injury record.

As quoted by BBC Radio Leeds’ Adam Pope (7 June), Gareth Southgate confirmed Phillips, 26, suffered a “severe dead leg” in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Germany.

The midfielder went off after just 14 minutes in Munich after trying to play through his injury.

This came after a season hampered by injury, as a hamstring issue limited to 20 Premier League appearances during the 2021-22 campaign.

When asked if Phillips’ injury issues could make him less attractive to buyers, McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “The problem is loads of injuries makes him cheaper.

“That’s the fear for Leeds United. On the other hand, West Ham tried to sign him for £50million when he was injured.

“He might cost £100million now when he is fit. It’s a tricky one. It depends who is buying.

“He is still a magnificent talent and when he is at his best he is worth that £100million.

“It’s just whether he can stay fit and, of course, whether that offer ever comes in.”

Manchester City have been credited with interest in Phillips with long-serving midfielder Fernandinho set to leave the club this summer.

He is under contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2024, signing his last extension in September 2019.
