Leeds told to sign ‘next Grealish’ as source reveals Orta transfer update – pundit

Leeds United should try and sign a player in the mould of Jack Grealish or Emile Smith Rowe in the January transfer window, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted the Whites are crying out for a proper number 10 as well as a new winger and striker.

A Leeds source told Football Insider last Saturday (18 December) they have ripped up their original plan for the transfer window next month.

Director of football Victor Orta now wants to add two new midfielders with Kalvin Phillips set for an extended period on the sidelines with an injury.

But Agbonlahor has claimed they should not just stop there as the Yorkshire giants need to bolster their attacking ranks.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They need a striker, they need a winger, they need a number 10.

“Since I’ve watched Leeds in the Premier League they’ve never had a number 10 who can get on the ball, make something happen thread a pass. That’s what they need.

“Rodrigo, that’s not his game and he’s injured. I watched him before at Valencia and he’s a striker, not a number 10.

“A number 10 is a player like Jack Grealish, James Maddison or Emile Smith Rowe. That’s what I’m talking about.”

Leeds United

Leeds are crying out for a goalscorer with last season’s top-scorer Patrick Bamford only managing to start the opening five games of the Premier League season.

The Whites are among the division’s lowest scorers with 18 goals and Raphinha has scored eight of those.
